Police investigate targeted vehicle break-ins and theft at Geraldton Regional and St John of God hospitals
Police are investigating at least 10 vehicle break-ins on New Year’s Eve in what has been described as a targeted attack of cars parked at hospitals in Geraldton.
Police are seeking to identify suspects involved in the crime spree that lasted throughout Sunday night and into the morning of New Year’s Day.
Geraldton police acting officer in charge Sen. Sgt Nathan Johansen said at least 10 vehicles parked at Geraldton Regional Hospital and St John of God Hospital were broken into.
He said police believed one group targeted both hospitals but were yet to identify all suspects. It is unknown at this stage how many people were involved.
“We’re reviewing footage at present to identify possible offenders out of it,” he said.
“These are opportunistic crimes but the more the public can do to subdue it, the better. Ensure vehicles are locked and handbags aren’t left visible inside your vehicle.”
A 15-year-old boy was later charged with four counts of stealing, seven counts of criminal damage and unlawful possession.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police and report any suspicious activity.
