Geraldton foreshore attacks: Police investigating if two similar cases of women allegedly assaulted are linked

Police are investigating a second case of a woman who was allegedly indecently assaulted while walking along the Geraldton foreshore by a man on a bike. The two separate incidents three days apart have eerily similar details, including the same location and that the alleged offender was riding a bike. When asked if police were only looking for one offender, a police spokesperson said “at this stage police are investigating both in isolation and working to determine if they are linked.” The latest incident happened on Friday between 3.45pm and 4.15pm when, police say, a woman in her 20s was approached by a man on the Chapman Road foreshore near Mark Street in Beresford. “The man approached the woman and indecently assaulted her before leaving the area on a bicycle,” police said. He was last seen riding north on a track alongside Chapman Road. Earlier in the week, detectives detailed another alleged brazen and disturbing daylight attack on Tuesday afternoon. In that report, a 27-year-old woman, who was visiting Geraldton, was walking along the Chapman Road foreshore near Dean Street about 4pm when she was approached by a man on a bicycle. Geraldton Detectives acting officer-in-charge Det-Sgt Simon Harrison said the man allegedly stared at the victim making her feel uncomfortable before groping her right buttock. “The allegation was he grabbed her left breast and tried to kiss her. The victim pushed him away and he rode off,” Det-Sgt Harrison said. Det-Sgt Harrison said the woman reported the incident to the police, but was no longer assisting police with inquiries. “The woman doesn’t want to go any further with it, however, due to the nature of the incident detectives are still trying to track down the accused,” he said. The man is described as a 25-year-old man, dark-skinned, 174cm tall and wearing dark clothing. The description of the bicycle was not reported. In regards to both cases, residents or anyone who was driving in the area and has CCTV, mobile phone or dash-cam vision showing a man riding a bicycle around the time of the incident should upload the vision here.
