Police say staff Sunset Liquor Barons in Glenfield challenge four women trying to steal Jack Daniels cartons

Staff at a liquor outlet in Glenfield were forced to take matters into their own hands this week when four women reportedly attempted to steal two cartons of Jack Daniels, with workers retrieving one of two. Geraldton police said they received a report of four females entering Sunset Liquor Barons about 1.45pm on Wednesday and browsed for alcohol before one woman was captured on CCTV heading towards the cool room. Officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said the woman took two cartons of Jack Daniels and coke and left the store through the drive-through exit without making payment. He said staff followed the woman, approaching and challenging a group of females in a white Hyundai. “The females gave one carton back to the staff members but denied having another carton,” he said. The incident comes amid a surge in shoplifting incidents, which has seen police boost their presence at shopping centres and introduce schemes to help retailers communicate among themselves. Rigters IGA operations manager Stuart Bain admitted about $150,000 of missing products were written off as stolen between their Cellarbrations and IGA stores in one year.
