Power outage did not stop food deliveries and raising of funds for charity
Geraldton & Districts Seniors Action Group News
The March meeting was suddenly cancelled on Tuesday 14th due to a power outage and no one was allowed into the QE2 Centre.
The caterers had to cook elsewhere at the last minute but in the end, 40 hungry members were given a boxed lunch of chicken schnitzel and salad with profiteroles for sweets which were collected after 11.30am when the power came back on. Thanks to Angie and her willing helpers.
Our guest speaker for the day was to be Andrea Horstman from Midwest Charity Begins at Home.
Andrea kindly came instead to Monday bowls the following week to give a short talk about the organisation and a cheque for $500 was presented by president Lina Mittoni.
Andrea said that Midwest Charity Begins at Home would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Action Group for their ongoing support.
This local charity aims to assist those experiencing financial difficulty due to serious illness and has handed out over 2.7 million dollars to Midwest residents. This year marks their 16th year as a charity and they rely on the generosity of organisations, businesses and individuals.
Their main fundraising event is a gala held annually at the Geraldton Grammar Hall for approximately 430 guests with a formal seated dinner and entertainment.
The gala includes an online auction which last year raised $300,000 to help families experiencing tough times. They are grateful for such an incredibly generous community.
