Rams reclaimed top spot of the men’s first division in the Geraldton softball competition after an impressive victory over Martians.

They took the win 7-5 as Dean Pascoe pitched a great nine innings and kept the pressure on the Martian batters throughout the game.

Martians were handed further misery as Suiside inflicted an 11-1 mercy rule defeat in their other matchup.

Suiside played a solid all-round game with Cooper Jefferies leading the way on the defensive side, shutting Martians down to allow only one run, as most of the team stood up with the bat in helping to get runs over the plate.

Tyler Corlett and Blade Jefferies were both exceptionally solid in the field, making several key catches and defensive plays.

Suiside coach Dylan Percy was full of praise for the team and felt they were hitting good form at the right time.

“We ended up winning by mercy rule and the whole team played a solid game that’s hard to fault,” he said.

“Feeling like we’re in the right direction heading into finals.”

In women’s division one games, Rams took down Martians 9-8 in a terrific performance to keep pressure on the Pi’s in second place moving to within one point.

Pi’s having a bye this week puts pressure on them to win at all costs in the final round as Kristi March, Stacey Dershow and Sandra Watts were all solid for the Rams.

In the other women’s game, Marlins put in a great performance against Suiside, with Les Purcell’s team having already secured the minor premiership showing signs of slowing down in the run into finals.

In the second division men’s games Rams White beat Blaze 7-4 though Blaze coach Adam Gilchrist remained optimistic of the team’s chances going into finals.

“The boys just weren’t quite 100 per cent, a few minor errors cost us by the end,” he said.

“Joel our pitcher didn’t start the best and it wasn’t till the change was made and Eli came in did we start to fight back, but it was too late.”

Marlins took a close victory 20-17 against Rams Blue and Martians Black won their derby against Martians Red 16 runs to 2.

Women’s second division saw Martians Black demolish an undermanned Martians Red side 36-5, Marlins beat Pi’s 19-4 and Blaze took a narrow victory over Rams 17 runs to 16.
