Rangeway woman charged with aggravated robbery, accused of assaulting bottleshop workers and throwing a brick

A 46-year-old Geraldton woman is accused of punching and kicking a man and woman working at a bottleshop and then throwing a brick at bystanders after she was confronted for trying to steal $19 worth of alcohol. Selina Deborah Dann, who has been charged with aggravated robbery, allegedly entered the Fitzgerald Street bottle shop about 3.55pm on Tuesday and attempted to leave without paying. Police say a physical altercation resulted when staff challenged the woman when she tried to leave the store. The staff members — a woman in her 30s and a man in his 50s — were allegedly assaulted before Ms Dann then, according to police, verbally threatened others in the store with a brick. Both the alleged victims were taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital for injuries suffered in the incident. Police say officers went to an address in Rangeway a short time later around 5.45pm and arrested Ms Dann. Detective Constable Tyler Winter, of Geraldton Detectives, alleged the accused woman physically assaulted the victims by punching and kicking them. “The female victim received swelling and bruising to her face, to her arm and a cut to her head . . . the male victim was taken to hospital for concussion,” he said. The two victims have since been released from hospital and are recovering at home. Const. Winter alleged the accused woman then threatened bystanders after stealing $19 worth of alcohol. “Following the assault, the offender picked up a broken brick and threw it at the bystanders — no one was injured from the brick,” he said. “Watching the footage is quite confronting and we want to assure the public that we take these violent acts quite seriously.” Ms Dann appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Wednesday and she was remanded in custody to reappear on May 25.
