A big 2-0 win on the road has Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma humming as they now prepare for a gauntlet of three straight home games with the team playing for those who can’t.

The Reds went into their road clash against Murdoch Melville hoping to come away with a draw, but instead they pulled off a two-goal victory.

With the side now back home for a three-game stretch, it sets them up nicely for a tilt at promotion.

“So important to get those wins on the road . . . especially after saying trying to hold out for a draw,” captain Lachlan Gray said.

“To come away with a good win that potentially could have been a few more goals, but the Murdoch Melville goalkeeper had a fantastic game.

“It took something special to beat that goalkeeper, but it was a fantastic effort by our boys and we all played very well.”

La Fiamma have been playing together as a team, with the side hitting hot form in recent weeks.

“All of us, all the players are very positive in the situation that we’re in, we’re all playing for each other,” Gray said.

“We’re playing for guys who can no longer play, that’s one of the most important things that we’ve taken over the last three or four weeks.”

The team received some unfortunate news in the past month, which has brought the side closer and given them a bigger cause to play for.

“We’ve had some unfortunate things happen to some of our very close and key players this season, which have had a profound impact on the team,” Gray said.

“We’ve kind of said let’s play every game like it could be our last, because you never know when you’re going to be forced into retirement, especially at a young age.

“Since it happened, we’ve managed to have these consecutive wins . . . we pulled together as a team, we’re not just playing for each other but playing for those players who no longer can.”

The Reds have their first of three straight home games against Wanneroo this weekend.

A bittersweet game as Gray said the team will have to say goodbye to one of their own.

“Unfortunately, it will be Johnson Song’s last game this weekend, so hopefully it’s going to be a good goodbye for him,” he said.

“A fantastic player that’s joined us for a short period of time and had such an effect on our team - we wish him all the best.”

La Fiamma take on Wanneroo City this Saturday at Salvatore Sciuto Stadium at 6pm.
