Rovers set up grand final rematch as Murchison look to avenge grand final loss

Another grand final rematch is set for the Geraldton Hockey Association as Rovers downed the Australs for their shot at revenge against the Casuals.

The Rovers were the favourites going into the clash having had the better record throughout the season and beaten the Australs 2-0 in their final regular season match.

The Australs had the momentum having upset the Saints in their semifinal, but this time form beat momentum as the Rovers eased to a 3-0 win.

Kye McVee, Tyler Allen and Mac Hoefhamer all got on the score sheet as Jayden Valenti once again marshalled well in the midfield.

For Australs’ Ross Viner Award winner Daniel Zanetti and along with fellow midfielder Amos Steiger and Kyle Raina were among the best but could not overturn the result.

In the women’s A-grade Murchison won out a tight clash over the Australs to progress to their second straight grand final.

The two met most recently in the final round of the regular season with Murchison winning a 3-2 thriller.

They would get the job done again as Abbey Stribley and Kayley King both scored to to better Arizona Galbraith’s lone effort for Australs.

All-stars Brooke Elward and Lauren Martin led the way for Murchison. The Giudice & Barndon Award winner for best female senior player, Dale Cleary, along with Eleasha Donovan and Sienna Norgett were the best for Australs.

Casuals were far too strong for the Saints in the men’s A-reserve clash as they cruised to a 5-1 victory.

In what has been the most even competition of the top four grades, the Casuals were keen to avoid a straight-sets finals exit and made no mistake, with doubles from Angus Grant and Darren Shepley with Sam Owen grabbing one.

Carter Pardoe was the lone goal scorer for Saints as Casuals will take on Yacht Club this Saturday.

It’s an all-Saints final in the women’s A-reserve after Saints Black took down Yacht Club 4-2.

Amy Williamson has a double with singles to Lisa Norris and Jess Peel. Kerry Jefferies and Grace Potaczala were on the scoresheet for Yacht Club.

They will move on to face Saints Gold in an intraclub final.
