A level playing field let the best talent shine during the Geraldton Croquet Club’s Allan Marsh Mixed Handicapped Single’s tournament in August.

The competition was open for men and women, played over August 17-18 with play suspended due to bad weather on the Saturday.

It was a single-seeded round robin bracket between the nine competitors, with handicap play — meaning the stronger player give extra shots to their opponent.

In the men’s, Sharkey Ryan came out on top, winning six of his eight matches with a net hoops of 18 — the best out of the pack.

While in the women’s Mary Van De Wyngaard won six games with a net hoops of 11.

Some other strong play came from Peter Clift, who was the only other competitor with six wins, while Maureen Nanson finished with the highest net hoops for the women with 12 but fell short on wins.
