Geraldton’s welfare providers encourage the well-off to step into the shoes of the city’s homeless at an event in Maitland Park today from 5.30pm.

People are encouraged to sleep in their cars or “sleep rough” to raise funds for organisations that support local homeless youth.

The event, running during Homeless Week, will also feature talks from people who have experienced homelessness, as well as food, coffee, a scavenger hunt and storytelling from children.

The Sleep In Your Car event is being organised by Fusion Australia and Short Term Accommodation for Youth.

They aim to raise $15,000.
