Snapshot in Time: Queens Park Theatre has been entertaining Geraldton audience for more than 40 years

From hosting Slim Dusty and Jimmy Barnes to school plays and dance shows, Queens Park Theatre has been entertaining Geraldton patrons since its opening in March 1982. It has a seating capacity of 673 in its stylish auditorium, a 500-seat outdoor stone amphitheatre and two large foyers complete with bars. Positioned opposite Geraldton’s impressive St Francis Xavier Cathedral, and next to the Civic Centre, it is a major asset for our city, and allows us to host cultural events, plays, movies, national and international acts, and important community events such as dance studio events, school plays and Telethon. Facing Cathedral Avenue are the beautiful fountain pools and the forecourt which features a bronze sculpture which is a functioning sundial. In its early years, acts included Spano the Magician, Slim Dusty, and Michael Winslow from the Police Academy movies. There have been comedy festival roadshows, film festivals, musicals, choirs, ballets, and even children’s concerts. Some of the concerts hosted include Jimmy Barnes, Bernard Fanning, The Waifs, Kasey Chambers, Jon Stevens, Sarah Blasko and Birds of Tokyo. Since about 2010, pizza, wine and film nights have proved to be popular events. Coming to QPT later this year are, among other attractions, the Perth International Burlesque Festival, Rhythms of Ireland dance troupe and the Soweto Gospel Choir.
