Space theme is outta-sight

His friends in Apex often say Ian Fisher has “outer space” ideas.

So it’s appropriate the man who is simply known as ‘Fish’ is leading an organisation which has ‘Outer Space’ as the theme of their festival.

Mr Fisher is chairman of the Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival, which is putting on a “not to be missed” show on October 6.

The committee recently decided on having a theme for the Sunshine Festival - and it’s ‘Outer Space’ for Sunday week.

“We thought we would celebrate the 50th year landing of man on the moon,” Mr Fisher said.

“Next year it may be green and gold to celebrate Australia or black and white to celebrate something else. We will have a different theme each year.

“We would love people in the (float) parade, stallholders and those coming to the festival to dress in an Outer Space theme.

“It will give the day something extra.”

And the biggest extra Mr Fisher and his committee are planning on is people.

“We would love to attract crowds like the Sunshine Festival did in the old days,” Mr Fisher said.

“That’s probably wishing for too much, but the festival is a great event for families and their friends to enjoy.

“It’s a full day of fun, of music, classes for zumba and dancing, entertainment, stalls and much, much more.

“Last year we had Perth band Australian Showstoppers playing. They were really slick and smooth, dressing up and singing songs from The Beatles and Abba. They’re back and will perform Blues Brothers music.

“Floats start outside the Geraldton courthouse and finish at the Port Authority.”
