One of Geraldton’s biggest sporting facilities will be refurbished to bring its cricket pitches up to scratch, thanks to investment from the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund.

Eadon Clarke Oval in Spalding will have the base concrete block for pitch two replaced, while synthetic turf will be added for the same pitch along with pitch five, including rubber covers for the off-season.

The oval is home to Geraldton’s Wanderers Cricket Club.

The funding was a joint venture between the fund and the City of Greater Geraldton, with the total cost coming to $57,234.

Mayor Jerry Clune said it was a welcome upgrade.

“Eadon Clarke Oval is synonymous with cricket in our region, and it is fantastic to see the popular facility being improved,” he said.

“With the growing interest in the sport and the dramatic increase in the participation of female cricketers, it is important that players have access to top-quality facilities.

“I would like to thank the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, Cricket Australia and WA Cricket for their support without which these improvements would not have been possible.”

Works are set for late September, with the hope of being completed mid-October.
