Stayz, Expedia and Wotif release Travel Trends for Christmas, with holiday accommodation sold out in Geraldton

A travel group has released the latest short-term stay travel trends, revealing the Mid West is booking out fast for the festive season, with only 2 per cent of homes available. After years of COVID seclusion and restrictions, travellers are jumping at the chance to move around and reconnect with friends and family in 2023. Expedia Group released their No-Normal Trends Report, stating travellers left behind conventional trips and were heading towards “all-new experiences”. The traveller data was collected online from Expedia, Wotif and Stayz.com between September 22 and October 14, 2022. Expedia said out of the 41 Stayz holiday home listings in Geraldton, the data found only 2 per cent of Geraldton holiday homes were available to book between December 23-31. That equated to one property. Travel trend data revealed 63 per cent of visitors travelling to Geraldton this Christmas break are WA locals, followed by NSW interstate travellers, and the average length of stay over the Christmas break was five nights. A property listed near Greenough beach and the historic Greenough settlement, named Gully Cottage, was the highest reviewed City of Greater Geraldton property on the Stayz website, with more than 124 reviews and a 4.9 star rating. Airbnb results show there are only 10 properties available to book over Christmas in Geraldton and two in Northampton.
