Tash Faithfull picks up four wins while Gordon Spowart claims 2025 Mingenew Cup at Geraldton Turf Club

Local trainer Gordon Spowart had success in the Mingenew Cup with jockey Madi Derrick aboard six-year-old gelding Skittish at Geraldton Turf Club on Sunday.
Skittish led from the front for close to the entire race with Derrick giving the Spowart stable product a 10-out-of-10 ride over the 1900m distance.
Derrick began to separate from the pack at the 800m mark and never looked back as Skittish stormed home to win by a length-and-a-half ahead of Peter Bamford’s Striking Fella, who charged home to pick up a place in the main race of the day.
Spowart shone on the day with two wins and a placing, with his first win coming in the first race of the day.
Deep Discretion scored the first win of her career as she galloped home with Troy Turner on board, getting the better of Allan Hughes’ Twelveunder by a length.
Spowart then placed in race two with Extra Zero as Greg Wright’s Wasn’t Me pipped the Spowart stable product at the line.
Jockey Tash Faithfull clinched her first win of the day on board of Wasn’t Me.
Ron Cowl’s Navy Sun took out race three with Faithfull chalking her second win of the day in what would be another fruitful day for her at Geraldton.
Abrolhos Plate winner Collective, trained by Alby Bowtell, picked up a win in race four, paired once again with jockey Austin Galati. The duo went in as short priced favourites, proving their worth taking out race four by a length.
Race five went to Dan and Ben Pearce with Queen of Hawks. Their favourite paring in Geraldton with Faithfull proved to be a winner on the day with the trio combining for a win in race six as well with Zing To Win.
Faithfull picked up four wins on the day, extending her lead on the Provincial jockey rankings as she peels away from the pack.
Turner capped off his day with a double, with a win in the final race of the day race eight on board of Robert Matthews’ Gave Has Spoken, who won by half a length.
