Award-winning singer-songwriter Thelma Plum will headline Geraldton’s third annual Drug Aware Fools Festival this weekend.

The Melbourne-based Gamilaraay woman shot to fame in 2012 when she won Triple J’s National Indigenous Music Awards competition.

Later that year Plum, who was just 17 at the time, was named a finalist in Triple J’s Unearthed J award and was also nominated for best new talent in music at the Deadly Awards.

In February, Plum dropped new single Not Angry Anymore.

Plum’s single Clumsy in Love came in at No.79 on Triple J’s 2018 Hottest 100, and her cover of Flight Facilities’ song Clair De Lune has featured in adverts for Telstra and Apple.

She’ll be joined at the Geraldton music festival by Perth-based alternative band Great Gable, indie rockers Wooly Mammoth and Geraldton four-piece Rollercoast.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the Drug Aware Fools Festival boasted another stellar line-up.

“We’re really excited to be bringing the festival back for another year with a swag of high-quality Australian artists,” Mr Van Styn said.

“Get excited, Geraldton, this is going to be another amazing event on our beautiful foreshore.”

Apart from free tunes, festival-goers will have the chance to participate in an art battle and see a skateboard demonstration, or stroll around a variety of food and market stalls.

Before the festival kicks off, the Frothin’ Fools Gero Groms Surf Competition will take place at Back Beach.

The all-ages drug and alcohol-free event and will run from 3pm-6pm on Saturday, April 6, at the Stow Gardens on the Geraldton Foreshore.
