Top sides Marlins, Suiside in action in Geraldton softball this weekend
First and third play each other in Geraldton’s top women’s softball division on Friday.
Midwest Marlins start the Geraldton Softball Association round against Pi’s at 6pm in the women’s A-grade before Suiside play Rams on Saturday at 1pm.
In the men’s A-grade, third- placed Martians have double duty on Saturday, playing top side Suiside at 5pm and second-placed Rams at 7pm. B-grade games run on Friday and Saturday.
In the A-grade women’s competition, Pi’s made a mammoth comeback over Suiside last Friday, winning 21-20 in seven innings.
At one stage Suiside were up 12-0 and three outs away from winning by mercy rule, until Pi’s put the ball into play with Suiside eventually racking up a huge 14 errors for the game and an even more worrying 15 unearnt runs.
Susan Mundy was best on field in a losing side with an outstanding five hits from six appearances and six runs batted in while at it.
Kylie Morgan was brilliant behind the plate, backing up a wild throw from shortstop and then throwing the runner out at second.
Midwest Marlins dispatched a disappointing Martians 8-0 in warm conditions last Saturday.
Taryn Purcell had a good day at the plate, racking up hits from both sides and also pitching the win.
Tamara Kuipers was Martians’ best.
There were big scores in the B-grade, as well.
Steph McAuliffe’s efforts with the bat weren’t enough as a Pi’s lineup featuring Leanne Criddle and others overcame her Batavia Blaze side 19-6 on Saturday.
Suiside beat Martians Black 17-4, and Rams beat Martians Red 21-18.
In the A-grade men’s, Cooper Jefferies pitched the win for Suiside, while Blaze Jefferies continued a hitting streak, as they beat Rams 9-2.
Liam Meharry went the long ball off a Paul Valenti pitch which sailed over centre field.
Suiside have 50 runs for the year, giving up just 11 runs in six games.
Rams have two wins and four losses while Martians are on a solo win with 17 runs for and 61 against.
In B-grade men’s, Batavia Blaze beat Martians Red 7-2, Suiside Green beat Rams White 16-5, Suiside Black beat Martians Black 10-0.
Rams Blue forfeited against Marlins.
