One Geraldton man started his Easter long weekend with a sinking feeling, after his vehicle ended up at the bottom of the Batavia Marina on Thursday.

Fishermen working on vessels and customers sitting at Skeeta’s Restaurant and Cafe watched in shock as a white Toyota Prado floated in the waters at the marina about 1.40pm.

The vehicle slowly drifted deeper, as it filled up with water and completely sunk nose first into the water.

The owner of the vehicle, who did not want to be named, said he stopped to get a drink from the boot of the car.

When he slammed the back door, he said the car began rolling into the water.

A man who owned a boat at one of the pens assisted. He put his dive gear on and attached a tow rope to the vehicle, which had sunk to the bottom of the marina.

A tow truck hoisted the vehicle out of the water, with the help of another driver that stopped to help.

No one was harmed and the vehicle was safely retrieved about 3.30pm.
