Trust urges community to register for National Heritage Festival after Geraldton Regional Library applies

The National Heritage Trust is inviting local organisations to register and take part in the Australian Heritage Festival after the Geraldton Regional Library was the first in the nation to register an event. The National Trust WA has opened registrations for the annual festival in 2023, the country’s biggest festival celebrating natural and cultural heritage. The festival, running from Monday, April 10 to Sunday, May 14, will see events and exhibitions run across the country with this year’s theme of “Shared Stories”. The Geraldton Regional Library was the first to register an event and the Trust wants to see more local history groups, museums and community organisations take part in the festival. The theme will share rich stories of natural, cultural and Aboriginal heritage to tour and build deeper connections to Australia’s layered history. National Trust of WA CEO Julian Donaldson said it was exciting to be a part of the national celebration of heritage. “Thanks to funding from Lotterywest, we’re looking forward to running several public events as well as supporting all the community-based events with a printed program, online calendar and broader festival marketing,” he said. “We encourage organisations around Western Australia to take part and engage their communities in heritage.” The National Trust of Australia WA was approved for a $1.3 million dollar grant by Lotterywest in 2021.
