WA had a stunning run at the under-20 national basketball championships in Queensland going undefeated throughout the tournament to end a 22-year title drought

After six days of intense action, WA was undefeated facing New South Wales in the gold medal match who themselves had dropped only one game in the tournament.

However, there was never any doubt where the cup would be heading as WA dominated the final, scoring 30 points in the first quarter on their way to a 108-71 victory.

Geraldton product and Buccaneer Tomas Dobson was part of the squad, playing 10 minutes for six points, two rebounds and one assist.

While he was not part of the starting five, playing off the bench, Dobson still had time to shine with his most impressive performance coming against the NBA Global Academy.

Trailing by eight points at half-time he scored 17 points in 15 minutes going a perfect five from five at the line.

His performances did not go unnoticed by coach Andrew Cooper who praised the sharp shooter when speaking to the Herald Sun.

“We’ve spoken about it, someone is always going to get a moment in these tournaments, he shot the ball really well,” he said.

“That’s his job, he’s been told that’s his role and he came in and did it today, it was really great for him.”

Dobson will return to Geraldton where he will be hoping to help the Pumas to the Geraldton Basketball Association title.
