The women’s cricket league is on break until February 4 as Country Week comes to the fore, so it is the perfect time to review who has stood out in the season so far.

CHAPMAN VALLEY-NORTHAMPTON: 0W/1D/9L CURRENTLY 4TH

The Rams have struggled and are yet to register a win this season, relying on too few players, but they are at least a basis to build on.

With the bat, Kate Clarkson has shone with 227 runs including two 50s. But while Kyle Bremner and Charlene Miller have had moments, there’s little else of note.

With the ball, Bremner has been economical but more is needed from Tahliah Halden, Kim Mawer, Tarni Screaigh and Clarkson.

Most Runs: K Clarkson 227 at 28.37, K Bremner 96 at 13.71; Most Wkts: K Bremner 6 at 16.83; Players used: 19; Highlight: Spirited fielding in the last game before the break despite being two players short.

Synopsis: Struggle in all aspects, sure to be wooden spooners.

SPORTSMANS: 6W/1D/2L CURRENTLY 2ND

Feel they can match Wanderers but are patchy.

Sarah Prickett with 142 runs has been their best bat, especially under pressure. Amanda Gundry, Belinda Burrows, Stacey Jerrard and Jo Walker have ability but need to do more.

Walker boasts four three-wicket hauls and the Hayleys, McGlynn and Criddle, have done well. Add Tia Hatch and Isabelle MacPherson and Sporties have a solid attack.

Most Runs: S Prickett 142 at 28.40, A Gundry 86 at 17.20, B Burrows 86 at 17.20; Most Wkts: J Walker 17 at 6.70, H Criddle 11 at 12.27, H McGlynn 10 at 4.90; Players used: 16; Highlight: Criddle’s 5-18 versus Wanderers, the second best figures in the team’s history.

Synopsis: Good enough to win the flag but it would help if Daniera Papertalk commits to the rest of the season.

TOWNS: 3W/1D/5L CURRENTLY 3RD

Unlikely to make the final but capable of upsetting the top two.

Dirranie Kirby has been outstanding with the bat while Ruth Vorster has also done well. Add Janelle Phillips and their top order is excellent.

Corinne Lynch has led with the ball with support from Phillips, Kirby, Vorster and Michelle McDonald.

Most Runs: D Kirby 226 at 37.66, R Vorster 201 at 28.71, J Phillips 117 at 19.50; Most Wkts: C Lynch 12 at 11.33, J Phillips 8 at 8.12, D Kirby 8 at 17.37 Players used: 19; Highlight: League record 131-run opening stand between Kirby and Vorster.

Synopsis: Have missed Pam Micke in the top order and with Phillips still getting back to her best haven’t clicked.

WANDERERS: 7W/1D/1L CURRENTLY 1ST

Setting the standard with their only blemish being a loss to Sportsmans though they’ve won two other games against them.

With the bat, Olivia Bidwell is so good she often retires to give others a go and young Abby Green and Charli Bidwell are developing well.

Has the comp’s best attack with Ashlyn Thompson superb plus Olivia Bidwell, Green and Kasey Maynard. Add Sam Biddiscombe, out since round four, and they’ll be deadly, and Linda Rose knows just how to use them.

Most Runs: O Bidwell 246 at 41.00, L Gillingham 127 at 15.87, CG Bidwell 106 at 15.14; Most Wkts: A Thompson 14 at 5.64, A Green 14 at 8.71, O Bidwell 8 at 12.00, K Maynard 8 at 17.37; Players used: 20; Highlight: Olivia Bidwell’s three successive 50s; she needs three runs to be first to 1000.

Synopsis: Should defend the title.
