Wintersun Hotel burglary accused located and charged after damaging cigarette machine and stealing alcohol

Geraldton police have caught up with the 46-year-old man who allegedly broke into the Wintersun Hotel with a mallet, attempting to wedge open a cigarette machine and stealing two bottles of Jack Daniel’s. Acting officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Nathan Johansen said police arrested a man in Spalding at 10.25pm last Thursday. Early on Thursday morning about 2.40am, police allege the man broke open an entry point to the Wintersun Hotel with a mallet, damaging the latch to a door and gaining access to the building. Sen. Sgt Johansen said the man attempted to break open a cigarette machine and climbed over the TAB bar, stealing two bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey. The man was charged with burglary and commit, stealing and criminal damage and is due to appear in Geraldton Magistrates Court on February 23.
