GSCA 2024: Fireworks expected as Kojonup and Broomehill square off for inaugural T20 decider under lights

Kojonup and Broomehill are gearing up for the Great Southern Cricket Association’s inaugural T20 grand final under lights on Friday night. All six teams played five T20 matches with the Cougars and Bandicoots each finishing with a win-loss record of 4-1 to book a spot in the decider which starts at 7pm on Friday at Kojonup. The Cougars were the only side to defeat the Bandicoots through the qualifying games and are the only team to beat the three-time reigning one-day premiers this season. Cougars skipper Liam Want said drying up the Bandicoots’ stacked batting line-up would be the catalyst to securing a memorable T20 triumph. “They’ve got some big hitters in there who can take the game away from you pretty quickly,” Want said. “So trying to minimise the boundaries and almost just dry it up a little bit so that they feel like they have to probably make boundaries and give us chances. “We don’t want to give them the freedom of playing the way they want to play.” Want has been in scintillating form, having belted a record-breaking century last innings, but believes his side’s depth runs deep. “I think on our day we can be as good as anyone but we’ve just got to bring that on the day,” he said. “We should have a full contingent to pick from so we should give ourselves the best chance to hopefully have a win.” Bandicoots captain Lewis Barritt believes good starts will set up the rest of the match and he is ever cautious of the threat Want poses with the bat. “I think the game will be won in the powerplays and who can take their catches,” Barritt said. “If (Want) gives you a chance you have to take it. “We are close to full strength and we have learnt a lot we can do different from that round one loss.”
