Volunteers come together for thankyou breakfast
Volunteers of a small regional shire were treated to a thank you breakfast for the ongoing work they do for the community.
The Shire of Waroona hosted two thank you breakfasts on Saturday for volunteers in Waroona and Preston Beach.
About 70 people gathered at Waroona’s memorial town hall for breakfast at 8am, with another gathering coming together in Preston Beach’s community centre at 9am.
Shire president Mike Walmsley said the day was a small way to thank volunteers.
“Waroona’s kind of special as far as our volunteering goes, we are well above the national average, and we certainly have a community that’s committed to volunteering and helping others, and it shines though,” he said.
“It’s a thankless job and it certainly has its challenges at the time, and in the busy life that we all have, that fact so many have the time to do what you do is just unbelievable.”
“If it wasn’t for these committed people, our community wouldn’t be able to function.
“So, on behalf of the council and the community, thank you all for what you do, it’s an invaluable service.”
Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke praised those at the Preston Beach breakfast saying they were the “heart and soul” of the community.
“Preston Beach does punch above its weight when it comes to volunteering,” she said.
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you well.”
Mrs Clarke wished the community a Merry Christmas and said her Christmas wish this year was for the community to be safe and for the emergency service workers and volunteers to have the Christmas season off.
