Waroona Warriors’ 2024-25 season came to an end with a 19-run loss to Shoalwater Bay in their Peel Cricket Association D-grade preliminary final on Saturday.

A strong contingent representing the club made the trip to Shoalwater Oval to cheer their only remaining senior side on but they could only respond to the hosts’ score of 170 with a total of 9-151.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Waroona made a brilliant start with Daniel McCulloch taking a wicket with the fourth delivery of the game.

The Warriors took consistent wickets throughout their innings but Shoalwater Bay were able to do enough to post a competitive score.

Caleb Lewis (3-16 from six overs) and Shane Della Franca (2-34 from five overs) were the Warriors bowlers to take multiple wickets.

In the second innings, Kaiden Hannah’s innings of 54 from 95 balls helped the Warriors recover from a start of 3-34 to get back in the contest, but his dismissal left too much to the lower order despite a fighting finish.

The Waroona Junior Cricket Club finished their season earlier this month, fielding three teams in the Peel competition.
