Qld's Caboolture Hospital surgery review
Findings from the review into claims of preventable deaths, surgical negligence, and a culture of bullying at Queensland's Caboolture Hospital.
* 137 complaints made to a dedicated hotline, which formed part of the review.
* One preventable death was caused by clinical management after a decision to operate
* No surgeon performed outside of their scope of practice at the hospital.
* Safety and Quality reports have been substandard.
* Further training is needed for clinical incident management such as report writing, open disclosure, consumer complaint management and auditing processes.
* Concerns were raised by staff about "inappropriate behaviours and attitudes" at the hospital, noting it can have a "direct link" to poor surgical outcomes and compromise safety.
* Metro North Hospital and Health Services will support strategies to improve workplace culture.
* All cases involving identifiable patients have been reviewed.
* All cases reported through the hotline or through the media are being, or will be, followed up.
* Metro North Health has accepted the report's 19 recommendations.
