Men charged over loaded gun discovery inside MCG during Carlton-Collingwood AFL blockbuster

They were asked to leave by security, with police becoming involved when they refused to do so.
“Police were called by security at the MCG to assist with two males refusing to leave the venue due to their behaviour,” a Victoria Police statement from Thursday night read.
“As a consequence, police have arrested two males and during a search it is alleged two firearms were located on each of these males.
“No one was injured during the incident.
“A 21-year-old Roxburgh Park man and a 27-year-old Broadmeadows man are currently in custody being interviewed.”

The 27-year-old man was charged with possessing an unregistered handgun, possess ammunition without licence, alter serial of a firearm, posses loaded firearm, possess prohibited item (Major Event Act offence), and fail to appear on bail.
The 21-year-old man was charged with prohibited person possess firearm, possess ammunition without licence, commit indictable offence while on bail.
They are set to face court on Friday.
There were 82,000 fans in the arena at the time of the alleged incident.
It is unclear how the loaded guns were brought in undetected.
Fans enter the MCG by passing an advanced security screening system which uses AI and advanced sensor technology to detect weapons, which was recently installed at the arena, Sunrise understands.
But the US company, which created the technology, recently settled in a class action dispute claiming that it greatly exaggerated the capability of the system.
Collingwood won the match by 17 points, overcoming a slight half-time deficit with a 4-6 (30)-0-1 (1) third quarter blitz, leaving Carlton winless through four rounds and needing to defy history to make it three straight finals appearances.
The Blues have never appeared in the finals after opening their season with four straight losses.
