It’s a real honour to pull up a chair at the ship captain’s dinner table — and a lucky group of Geraldtonites will do just that next month.

Here’s the catch though — they won’t even have to step foot off land to do so.

The Variety WA Midwest Branch biannual big bash takes place with the SS Variety Captain’s Table Dinner on August 29.

Patrons will dine on top off the Moresby Ranges, which is set to be transformed to look like the inside of a cruise ship.

Variety WA Mid West regional co-ordinator Jan Ajduk is tight-lipped on the details, but compared the finished product to one of the world’s most famous ships.

“It’ll be like spending a night on the Titanic, except there’s no chance of us sinking, ” she laughed.

“We have our major fundraiser every year and this one’s going to be similar to the Moresby Dining Challenge we’ve held before.

“That was amazingly successful so we decided to take on a similar theme, but then completely transform it to something that’s going to be totally breathtaking.

“It’ll be exactly like being on board a cruise ship, except you’ll be sitting on top of the ranges with a breathtaking view of the ocean.”

A classy night out is what organisers are going for, so to match the high-calibre venue, they’ve also brought in two renowned chefs.

Former Blue Water Grill Restaurant chef Brad Leahy will be joined by Channel 10’s Masterchef finalist Josh Catalano.

While you dine, entertainment will also be provided by the WA Detachment of the Royal Australian Navy Band.

Though it’s set to be a classy night, Mrs Ajduk wants people to remember what an evening like this will really mean.

“Every dollar we collect will go towards enriching the lives of Mid West children, ” she said.

Tickets have almost sold out. Tables seat 10 and cost $180 per person.
