A broad grin and thumbs-up from Patricia Porter told her granddaughter, Kelly Hinks, all she needed to know — a ride on the back of a motorcycle was the right birthday present for her grandmother.

The biker gran from Point Moore took a turn on the back of Ian “Cowboy” Logan’s Triumph, a surprise arranged by her family in honour of her 80th birthday.

Ms Hinks said her grandmother, who has three children, nine grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren, deserved a special treat on her birthday on Tuesday.

“It was lovely to see her on the back of the motorbike — she had the biggest smile and it made her day,” Ms Hinks said.

“Grandma was a very hard worker. She had a farm in Tasmania where she raised milking cows and grew potatoes.

“This couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. She’s done everything for everyone in the past.”

Mrs Porter’s daughter, Christine Duggan, arranged several treats for her mother this week, including a ride in a vintage car, a party with family and friends and the motorbike ride.

She said motorbikes were her mother’s passion.

“When mum met dad years ago they always rode a bike because dad didn’t have any money,” Ms Duggan said.

“They rode a motorbike until I was born.”

Clad in a leather jacket and seated on the back of the motorbike, Mrs Porter said she was a bit nervous but was looking forward to the ride through Geraldton.
