A 19-year-old man has been granted his two wishes, he won't spend his 20th birthday in jail and his girlfriend said yes when he asked for her hand in marriage.

Lionel Dennis Warren Boddington was sentenced on charges of criminal damage, burglary, stealing, damaging property, reckless driving, driving without a licence and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.077 in Geraldton Magistrate's Court on Friday.

He declared his intention to propose to his girlfriend in court last week when he appeared via video-link from Greenough Regional Prison, and asked the magistrate to expedite his sentencing so he could be released from custody in time for his birthday.

Boddington broke into the Morawa Traders on August 31 and stole alcohol to the value of $340.

The reckless driving charge arose from an incident at Morawa on September 20.

He was driving on a vacant block, accelerating heavily in his Ford Falcon causing the car to spin and slide sideways. He was forced to stop when the car ran out of fuel. He was apprehended by police as he walked away from the vehicle.

Boddington told arresting police he wanted them to catch him.

The court heard Boddington has a long history of property-related offences, all related to substance misuse and served terms of detention as a juvenile.

Boddington has aspirations to play AFL.

Magistrate Geoff Lawrence sentenced him to a 12-month intensive supervision order, 100 hours of community service, a $1500 fine, nine months disqualification from driving and restitution of $860.

"That reflects all the trouble you've caused," he said.
