Families bring learning home

Staff reporter, GERALDTON GUARDIANGeraldton Guardian

The Child and Parent Centre — Rangeway has held its graduation ceremony for the Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters.

A two-year early learning program, HIPPY aims to empower parents and carers to be their child’s first teacher.

Families from a diverse range of backgrounds took part in the program, with participants presented with certificates and sashes during the graduation.

The program links learning at home with learning at school and families usually start the program when their child enters kindergarten and continues until they have finished pre-primary.

It is supported by research which shows children’s most powerful learning comes from their family and that getting a strong start at school can set children up positively for life.
