Fete to raise spirits along with funds

The 69th Nazareth House fete is about to come together for another year, but the event means more than just the chance to enjoy a day out.

It’s also an opportunity for the aged care facility to purchase new equipment.

Proceeds from the annual event, which will be held on Sunday, will go towards funding new caring implements for residents.

Sister superior in charge Ana Robertson, who’s been involved with the fete for more than 10 years, said the event played a major role in allowing the facility to update equipment.

“The proceeds from the day go back to the facility to provide equipment and other items that the residents will benefit from and gain extra pleasure out of, ” she said.

“Last year we used the funds to purchase some new shower trolleys that allow our residents to be showered more comfortably.

“We also purchased some Brain Trainers to encourage residents to keep their minds active.”

This year the facility hopes to purchase new wheelchairs, blood pressure machines, bladder scanners and more Brain Trainers.

To raise the money, fete organisers have arranged stalls, games, pony rides and a whole range of activities to entice visitors. Though the aim is to raise funds, Sister Robertson said there was a more important reason for the community to attend.

“Our residents really love the event, because it’s a chance for them to see their family and spend some time together with them, ” she said.

“It’s really lovely to see the excitement and enjoyment the residents get out of it.

“But it’s also a chance for us to thank the community for their support of us and their generosity. We keep them in our prayers but this is a physical way for us to show our gratitude.”

The fete will begin from 10am at Nazareth House.
