Flood warning and road closures for Geraldton area
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a flood warning for the Greenough and Irwin Rivers following widespread storms in the river catchments over the weekend.
The City of Greater Geraldton is monitoring the Greenough River and will be closing roads subject to flooding.
City director of community infrastructure, Neil Arbuthnot, urged motorists to stay away from flooded crossings and observe road closed signs.
“Roads are closed to protect the motorists safety and as a secondary measure to protect infrastructure,” he said.
“Causeways, crossings and roads that are flooded often have significant damage hidden by the water and can pose a high to extreme risk to those motorists who venture into the unknown and those that are faced with the inevitable rescue.
“Put safety first and observe road closure signs.”
