Fun and entertainment at Mayfair
Visitors may see a few cowboy hats or hear an occasional “yee-haa” at St Georges Mayfair this weekend as the 41-year-old fundraising fete adds a touch of country to its entertainment line-up.
While many Mayfair visitors will be visit the grounds of the Anglican church in Bluff Point tomorrow (Saturday) to hunt through the bargain stalls or enjoy the children’s activities, jumping castle, train rides, static speedway car display, Mayfair co-ordinator Wayne Sutton said there would also be a great line-up of musical entertainers, including singers and musicians from local schools, country duo Don and Di Brose, Geraldton Choral Society, Sing Australia and The Hot Flushes, to add to the atmosphere at the fun family event.
Mr Sutton said the success and longevity of the annual parish fundraiser came from “big-hearted volunteers” who give their time and energy to make the event enjoyable. He said the fete often attracted large crowds and he hoped this year would be no different.
“Mayfair provides our local community with a relaxed fun day to meet friends, enjoy light entertainment, find some bargains and experience the lovely setting of the St Georges property,” he said.
“The usual fun will be found around the White Elephant stall, plants, books, clothes, crafts, jams, cakes, train rides and light refreshments. There will be activities for kids, a jumping castle and even a display from Geraldton speedway.”
Mr Sutton said in previous years the event had raised about $10,000 and this year the proceeds from the fete would help with the upkeep of the church and the running of its ministries.
“It gives a tremendous boost to employing Christian workers, maintaining buildings and taking the Good News of Jesus Christ out to the local community, schools, neighbours and friends,” he said.
The stone St Georges church was built in 1935 and has a congregation of about 50 families. Mayfair will run from 9am until 1pm at St Georges, 367 Chapman Road, Bluff Point, tomorrow.
