Geraldton softball league round wrap: Suiside continue to flex their muscles in the men’s comp

Geraldton softball returned in full force over the weekend as teams battled for crucial wins, with finals fast approaching and every game crucial as teams fight for a spot in the top four.

In men’s division one on Friday night, Suiside continued their dominance with a 7-0 victory over Martians.

Jy Prosser led the way offensively with a double and a single, while Cooper Jefferies himself struck out seven batters to keep Martians scoreless.

Martians struggled to find a way past Suiside’s defence, with Deon Drage and Kynan Leggett among their few standouts at bat.

Rams secured a 13-5 win over Blaze in a game in which teamwork proved key. Player-coach Paul Valenti praised his side’s collective effort.

“We had a solid win against Blaze. Great team win with everyone contributing to the result,” he said.

Luke Valenti was impressive on the mound and added two hits with the bat, while Dion Harrison led the charge offensively with three hits. The win keeps Rams in the hunt as they aim to build momentum heading into finals.

In women’s division one on Saturday, Rams edged out Suiside in a tightly contested game that remained close until the final dig. Rams capitalised late to secure a 12-6 win.

Stacey Derschow was outstanding on the mound and backed up her performance with strong hitting to help steer Rams to victory.

Pi’s Panthers extended their winning streak with a thrilling 11-10 win over Martians. Both teams put on an impressive display with the bat, with Pi’s tallying 15 safe hits to Martians’ 17.

Kylie Morgan and Jodi Reed were key contributors for the Panthers, while Janelle Phillips added a double and a single. Halo Colley, Pam Micke, and Paige Kirby were among the best for Martians, who fought hard but were ultimately undone by costly errors in the field.

In men’s division two, Gunduwa’s rise continued with a 16-5 win over Martians Black. Beau Simpson was pivotal at bat and on the mound, while Shaun Brennan impressed in the field.

Martians struggled defensively but had solid contributions from Andrew Middler and Mackinley Orr. Batavia Blaze flexed their offensive power with a 24-3 win over Rams White, while Pi’s Panthers continued to show improvement despite a 32-7 loss to Rams Blue.

Martians Red sealed an 8-3 win over Midwest Marlins thanks to a standout performance from Jaryd Bear, who struck out 11 batters and will represent WA in Canberra this March as part of the under-14s team.

Next round will see Martians Red take on Pi’s Panthers, Suiside face Martians Black, Gunduwa battle Blaze, and Rams White look to climb the ladder against Marlins.

In women’s division two, Rams White split their double-header, falling 16-10 to Blaze before bouncing back with a 12-6 win over Martians.

Bethany Dawson led the charge on the mound, while Abbie March was sharp at second base.

A dominant Marlins overpowered Rams Blue 32-1 and Gunduwa had a 22-3 win over Pi’s Panthers, while Suiside stormed to a 27-6 victory over Martians, led by a spectacular performance from Susan Mundy.

The experienced player smashed a grand slam and a home run to put the result beyond doubt.

Looking ahead, Blaze face a challenging double-header against Rams White and Marlins, while Martians take on Rams Blue.

Rams White will have another demanding round with a second game against Pi’s Panthers, while Gunduwa will look to maintain their form against Suiside.
