A Geraldton girl has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving after police recovered a crashed stolen car at the weekend.

Police said the Holden Commodore had "substantial damage" after it crashed into wooden bollards and became bogged in sand in a residential area in Utakarra early on Saturday morning.

Police allege the 16-year-old ran from the scene but was arrested at 12.40am, about 100 metres from the scene, when the police dog was deployed.

It is further alleged that she recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.095 at the time of the crash.

Police said the girl did not appear to have any injuries.

She has been charged with car theft, dangerous driving, excess 0.08% and unlicensed driving.

She will face Geraldton Children’s Court at a later date.
