GOOD FRIDAY OPINION: What is the most costly thing to do? That will vary from person to person, but I think that for many of us the answer is “apologise”.

Making peace is a very costly exercise; most of us have a lot of pride to swallow. It can cost money, from a text, to flowers, to a visit, to paying for repairs. It can cost liberty with admissions to crimes sometimes meaning time spent in prison.

Making peace is a big deal. It is for us and, as Good Friday reminds us, it is a big deal for God, too. The difference is that God was not in the wrong, but still made peace at great cost.

We were the rebels, the ones who snubbed our Maker, we were in the wrong. God acted decisively, Jesus died on that first Good Friday to make peace, to pay the price for our rebellion.

With all the distractions of Easter it is easy to lose sight of the massive cost of peace with God. This Easter it is worth reminding ourselves of the lengths that God went to in making peace with us.

I will leave you with a verse from the Bible, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, New International Version Bible).

Happy Easter, from all of us at Holy Cross Anglican Cathedral Geraldton.
