A man has been arrested after he allegedly punched a man in broad daylight yesterday and took his mobile phone.

Police said the attack happened when the victim, a 33-year-old Spalding man, was walking along Durlacher Street, Geraldton, talking on his phone about 1.10pm.

Police allege a man approached the victim, accusing him of stealing his mobile phone.

When the victim denied it, the man allegedly punched him in the face, causing him to drop the phone.

The attacker then allegedly picked up the phone and left the scene.

Police patrolling the area, alerted to the incident by a witness, arrested a man after a short foot chase.

A 37-year-old Utakarra man will face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court today.
