Man faces boatload of charges
A 22-year-old Wonthella man has been charged with multiple offences after he was allegedly caught stealing from vessels docked at the Geraldton Port.
Police allege the man stole multiple items from the vessels, including whitegoods, tools, electrical equipment, computers, food and cameras.
These items were believed to have been stored on another boat until the male could retrieve them the next morning.
The man has been charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary, three counts of stealing and also providing false personal details.
Police opened a line of inquiry after they had received numerous complaints about items being stolen from boats while docked at the Fisherman’s Wharf and, after an extensive investigation, were able to locate and apprehend the male, who initially gave police a false name.
The alleged offender has been refused bail, awaiting an appearance at Geraldton Magistrate’s Court.
