Old school buddies remember when

Half a dozen old school buddies from Bluff Point Primary got together and within minutes the funny memories were starting to resurface.

Unsurprisingly, most of the stories were of the former students causing mischief.

Sheree Maluish, Lucinda Ruiz, Deeanne Peck, Kelli Lolang, Gary Comley and Jarod Stone had funny memories to share.

One of the former Bluff Point ladies remembered an interesting game of kiss chasey.

“I remember playing kiss chasey and when one of the boys tried to kiss me I freaked out and kicked him in the nuts and got in trouble,” she laughed.

At a time when skipping, elastics and break dancing were popular, another lady remembers carrying her portable boom box to school on her shoulder.

“I used to think I was really cool, but now I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I did that,” she said.

It wasn’t just the girls causing trouble though, as one of the lads remembers getting the cane on his last day of school.

“It was my last day at the school and here’s me thinking I could get away with whatever I wanted. But clearly back-chatting the headmaster wasn’t the best idea I had,” he joked.

It’s memories like these the group is hoping will resurface during the Bluff Point Primary and John Willcock College reunion this year.

Former students from the classes of 74, 75 and 76 are welcome to attend the 40-year school reunion.

The reminiscing will take place at the Geraldton Hotel on November 14, and although there won’t be a playground, organiser Mrs Maluish said there would still be plenty of laughs.

“It’s going to be a really great chance to bring up some of those old memories and see where everyone is now,” she said.

“Some of them don’t have social media so they don’t know it’s happening, but anyone from those years is invited to come along for a catch-up, a few drinks and some funny memories.”
