Outstanding year marked

Geraldton Guardian

A group of outstanding students undertaking vocational education and training programs in schools were honoured recently at the Mid West and Gascoyne VETiS Awards.

The ceremony, held at Central Regional TAFE’s Aboriginal Learning Centre on October 26, was attended by proud parents, employers and local politicians.

Students were recognised in a range of categories including employment-based training, trade-based training and vocational studies.

Fraser Patterson from Geraldton Grammar School took out the 2016 VETiS Student of the Year while Nagle Catholic College’s Breanna Ryan was awarded Aboriginal Vocational Student of the Year.

The ceremony also recognised the partnerships between Central Regional TAFE and local businesses who support students in hosting work placement opportunities.

Culinary HQ, Maicon Engineering, Rio Tinto and DIAB Engineering all received nods for their work in giving students hands-on experience in the workplace.
