Pull on your boots for farmers

Market-goers are invited to pull on their boots in support of farming families at tomorrow’s Geraldton Greenough Farmers Market.

It is part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness for farmers markets and jobs.

Stallholders are inviting shoppers to join them in wearing boots of any kind as a symbol to promote farmers’ markets and encourage conversations about local food, supporting local farming families and encouraging regional youth to explore opportunities in agriculture.

Markets manager Yvonne Marsden said people could expect plenty of boots in action tomorrow during the Harmony Day Blundstone Geraldton-Greenough Farmers Market boot tossing competition.

“We’re asking shoppers – and stallholders – to put their best boots forward. It is amazing how this idea resonates. People are very passionate about supporting farming families and promoting agriculture to boost the local economy,” Ms Marsden said.

The markets are held every Saturday at Maitland Park, Geraldton, from 9am to 1.30pm.

The Boots For Change Support Farming Families awareness campaign is organised by the Australian Farmers Markets Association during April.
