Relay for life raises funds
Thirty-two teams came to support the continued fight against cancer at Eadon Clarke Park last weekend as they passed the baton for 24 hours straight in the Relay for Life.
The annual Cancer Council event has had great local success in past years and, although there were fewer teams walking the route than last year, it was a good time for all, with local performers playing the fundraising runners through the long night until well after sunrise.
The tired faces on Monday morning were well earned, after relay-runners sweated through a 31C cloudless day — the highest temperatures in a week.
Relay Mid West teams co-ordinator Marg McNaught said the entertainment had been absolutely fantastic this year.
“The singers have given me goosebumps, all the performances were very good,” she said.
The steady pumping of dance beats and local strums was only halted on Saturday night, for a moving candle-lit walk in honour of those who have died of cancer.
Ms McNaught said this was a very special time, especially for those who had lost someone close.
At the last check, $91,330.98 had been raised, with more to come as the teams collected last donations.
