VideoAn extensive land and sea search is underway for a man who went missing during a scuba diving trip in Geraldton on New Year’s Day.

The search resumed at 7am this morning for 41-year-old Spalding deli owner Dean Gellatly, who was reported missing about 9.30am yesterday.

Mr Gellatly was expected to contact a friend after a planned solo scuba dive at St Georges Beach in Bluff Point.

The friend contacted police when Mr Gellatly did not call.

His car was located in the Kempton Street car park with some scuba gear inside, including tanks.

However, Sergeant Chris Martin, who is forward commander for the search, said Mr Gellatly had purchased other tanks recently.

“There is no specific evidence at this stage to suggest he’s either been in or not been in the water or on the beach, but this was certainly the last place he was seen by members of the public,” he said.

Police are checking Mr Gellatly’s vehicle for possible forensic evidence.

The land and sea search continues with volunteers from SES, Champion Bay SLSC, Marine Search and Rescue north of St Georges Beach car park to Coronation Beach.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to call police on 131 444.
