Seniors show generosity for fire victims
Geraldton seniors have brought together years of money raised from bowls, darts and cards to give away for those still recovering from November’s Esperance fires.
Geraldton and Districts Seniors Action Group donated $1000 to the relief effort, raised from their 400 members through weekly activity entrance fees.
Treasurer Di Keighran said they found a little money which wasn’t being used and knew this was a good cause.
“It’s just that it’s our own fellow countrymen and it’s such a difficult time before Christmas,” she said.
“I only hope they can do the same for us if it ever comes to it.”
The group also holds regular raffles to raise money for the local Royal Flying Doctor Service and Cancer Council, and gave $1000 to the recovery efforts for the 2013 Tasmanian bushfires.
