Police at Dongara have issued 11 speeding tickets, 15 cautions and one court summons - just days after a road fatality in the Mid West.

Senior Constable Richard Fox, from Dongara Police, urged motorists to slow down after a busy weekend for police on the Brand Highway.

He said the consequences of speeding in regional areas were often lost on the public.

“We attend a lot of speed-related road fatalities out here and you see the impacts it has on families and the community,” he said.

“Out here we have a lot of black spots for mobile reception so if you’re involved in an accident it could be some time before help arrives.

“You have to abide by the speed limit - there’s no excuse.”

The court summons was issued to a 22-year-old Mt Tarcoola man for driving while his licence was suspended.

All other infringements were for speeding.

The warning comes after a fatal crash south of Northampton on North West Coastal Highway last Wednesday.

A 27-year-old Geraldton man was killed when the car he was travelling in failed to negotiate a right hand bend, hit gravel, skidded across the highway and then went down an embankment.

The man died at the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident.
