Members of the Geraldton Junior Badminton Association have returned home with a cabinet full of trophies after their trip to Perth for the Higgs Trophy and Junior State Championships.

Two under-17 teams from Geraldton filled the podium at the trophy event, and the championships showcased a range of strong performances from young local talent.

Will Klein, Adam Brockwell and Chloe Spence took the team event, with Mason Johnson, Andrew Carroll and Lily Klein coming second at Kingsway Stadium.

Lily also finished third in the under-13 singles. Samuel Sheilds was runner-up alongside Perth’s Gerrard Chan in the doubles.

Geraldton and Districts Badminton Association development officer Jenny Klein said it was a successful trip for the young players.

“It was a very tiring couple of days with a lot of badminton played,” she said.

“Our teams all did very well — all in all we had some terrific results with the small group we took to Perth.”
