Target will review security measures at its Geraldton store after thieves managed to break in overnight and steal mobile phones worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

The thieves broke into the store by smashing a window after forcing their way through external doors to the Northgate Shopping Centre on Chapman Road.

Police said the incident happened sometime between 10pm last night and 5am today.

For investigative reasons, police would not reveal the exact quantity or total value of phones stolen.

In a statement to media, police said “numerous” phones had been taken, including Microsoft 640s, Samsung Galaxy J1 Androids, Samsung Galaxy S5s and Samsung Galaxy A5s.

Target has previously advertised the latter two phones online for $729 and $549 each.

A spokeswoman from Target corporate affairs said the store would review its security measures “as we always do whenever an incident like this place”.

She said the store was working closely with Northgate management and police and did not wish to make any further comment.

Lendlease released a statement on behalf of Northgate management saying security and police had attended the scene following an incident at the complex overnight.

"We can confirm that no-one was injured during the incident and that the safety of our Retailers and Customers is paramount to us," a spokesperson said.

"The incident has since been handed over to the local authorities and we are assisting them with their investigation."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Geraldton Police on 9923 4555 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
