Police inquiries are continuing into the theft of a Nissan Dualis from Mount Tarcoola.

The car was allegedly stolen from an unlocked carport yesterday about 6am.

A police spokesperson said the owner left the carport door open and the vehicle’s keys in the ignition.

Geraldton’s Local Policing Team located the vehicle in the rear yard of a Karloo property later in the afternoon.

Stolen property from Sunset Beach was also recovered from inside the vehicle.

Acting Sergeant Paul Featherstone said people should be mindful to lock windows and doors to their premises and vehicles.

He said burglars were gaining entry into homes through unlocked windows and doors, and their presence therefore went undetected until after the burglary.

He said there had also been several reported incidents lately where people had left valuables in their vehicle in plain sight, and doors unlocked.

“Please don’t leave any valuables in your vehicles. Thieves have been targeting mobile phones, iPods, iPads, laptops, wallets, purses, handbags and cash,” he said.
