Perenjori has given its street bins a colourful makeover with painted covers showing off native wildlife and flora.

The 10 metallic bin enclosures manufactured by Mark Kearle were completed with the help of Perenjori Primary School kids during the January holidays, and they hit the streets today.

Also assisting the project was professional artist Steve Browne, who travelled from Perth to help, and local indigenous artist Delys Fraser.

The bins are part of the Perenjori council’s townscape plan, set down in 2014 to rejuvenate the look of the main street.

Perenjori graphic design development officer Christina Laue said it was a big improvement on the standard blue and red wheelie bins.

The species painted on the enclosures were selected by the kids and the painting took place over two days.

The idea of painting native species around town was to raise awareness of the natural environment and promote conservation.

Shire president Laurie Butler said the bins would bring new colour and vibrancy to the main street.
